Story of my first Australian tour

From Brisbane to Doges Ferry in Tasmania is a long way, and at the end of the most active part of my tour, 12 shows over 15 days, I feel a new man.

I thought it was a bad sign that at the second show of the trip in Sydney I was booed off stage. Attention never play the Roxbury Hotel, it’s a hole, but the bad start was the best way to adjust my ego for the remaining tour.

I have been surrounded my families, and sleeping in kids rooms. I stayed with a friend of my aunt’s in Sydney with 3 Kids, my uncle Bruno in Melbourne with his new born son Lucas, and I am now in Doges Ferry Tasmania, with Lucien Simon’s family, I am staying in his one year old son’s room.

I also stayed with Matt and Jen of loud music for 4 nights, but they don’t have kids (yet) they were kind enough to leave me in there house in the Tasmanian mountains for two days alone, good air and water is really good for the body, no traffic and no internet is good for the soul.

I avoided getting maggot every night, and although I was out to three am, nearly every night I feel great at the end of it all.

Highlights included flying back to Brisbane to play with Lost of Love in Drag. Playing out at Deans Marsh with ‘The Kindness of Strangers’ and selling a cd and badge to the captain of the ‘rats’ cricket team. Supporting a band of avant-garde teenagers called the ‘Bestiality Boys’ at the Lark in Hobart. Seeing Toni Collette in the crowd at The Republic Bar show, (from one star to another Toni ‘stick to the acting’)

Most of all and the highlight of the tour was playing the Month of Sundays at Backspace theatre in Hobart, Lucien directed it, and it was a combination of three musical acts, film and visual art.

I still have a Sydney date to go (cross fingers that it’s not a booing experience), but overall this was one of the most incredible and life changing experiences I have had. It’s great seeing new crowds and watching the way the respond to your music.

One last thing Hobart fucking rocks. I love Hobart, Ill will be back here before any other city, it’s the best kept secret in Australia, and a great artistic community.

Ill see my Brisbane buddies at rics on the 12th, (unless you’re going the show at the globe, which is also going to be amazing, maybe do both?)
