Could it just me that all artists reflect their influences and some have more alternatively conciously fashionable influnces than others ? I would argue the bigger threat to the industry is that not enough people care about music. For every person checking out alternative radio and obscure my space pages there are another million who are happy to walk into Sanity and buy whatever crap is on the shelves. Equally some people have filled up their 80 gig I-pods but it its about collecting music rather than absorbing and understanding it. Others buys a Beatles or Ramones T-shirt and think its a fashion label and are genuinely surprised to learn its a form of music. People would rather stay at home and watch crap televison on a giant plasma tv than see a live original show. Which brings us full circle to ask well what is 'original' music, is a thinly disguised / stolen / poor man's homage to your latest favourite band original, is it art ? Certainly the manufactured record compnay artists who do what they are told and have no real input into the music are a concern but then I look at Jet and think is that any different ? The truth is there is only one true artist and his name is Ed Guglielmino.
