911 story

On the third day i was in New York I trekked across town to go sight seeing. Its a city of unimaginable size and structure, and as a little Brisbane boy it was tough to get my head around.(even post-toyko, and singapore).

I came across the 911 memorial by accident the way a tourist does when he or she wonders a new landscape. It took me a while to release where I was. It look like a construction site with an american flag in the middle.

Once I began to read the stories, see the photos, and see the damage, once it all started to sink it. I found myself crying.

As a fairly cynical leftist I didn’t expect this reflex. I had always seen 911 as a minor event blown out of proportion for media and political again.

It is a truly horrific thing for any group of innocent people to die because of an argument which doesn’t include them. They probably don’t even care about.

This event belongs to New York city and the victims, not to the world. The only reason if effected Australians is because it was the only thing on TV for 4 days, and it is bought up as an excuse, or motivator every-time one of our civil rights are taken away.

Its is a foul and disgusting think that politicians use the deaths of innocent people to whip us into a frenzy and scare us into following them into battles which clearly have nothing to do with this tragic event.

The reason I cried on that day was two fold, I cried for the people who had died for no reason other than the will of a few men to cause destruction and express there hate for America and Americans, and I cried because 911 an attack on New York, has changed western democracies for the worst…. its only getting worse… George Bush proudly announcing his secret prisons for terrorist suspects which are hidden all around the world.

I am really not trying to be political, just trying to put things in perspective. People die and are killed around the world for all sorts of reasons in all sorts of places.

But one event is constantly placed into the front of our minds, why? because its a strike against our ‘team’ it could happen to any of ‘us’ and its a shoking site to see a plane crash into a building, and a building fall to rubble.

I see the earth as one big place for all of us, and I am just as distressed at seeing iraqis being killed as americans, and I don’t see any difference. I really wish that aliens or god or some force could stop all this crap. Its a cliche for a reason, but I really wish that we could all just get along. Hate and fear will never push us forward. Love and creation will make us evolve.

Love you all
